EMUGS meeting III wrap up Thoracic Park
EMUG Vic Thoracic Park meeting was held on Thursday 10th November at the Rosstown Hotel in Carnegie, Melbourne. And true to the theme, it was bigger than a T-Rex! Over 30 new ultrasound enthusiasts attended – it was great to see so many junior and senior docs in attendance in the name of PoCUS! We were also pleased to welcome our EMUG-NSW representative, Dr Sarah Vaughan. Thanks for coming along, Sarah!
Our three speakers educated us on the wonders of lung ultrasound. Senior Sonographer and POCUS Educator Extraordinaire Carolynne Cormack covered pleural effusion and artifacts. Dr Pourya Pouryahya spoke about tricks and tips for diagnosing pneumothorax. To close the evening, Dr Gaby Blecher talked about the mysteries of B lines on ultrasound.
Social Media was humming and buzzing with activity from home and overseas during the meeting – see some of the excellent commentary on Twitter using #thorpark
We were also excited to hold the Inaugural Clinical Lead in Ultrasound meeting (which we like to call CLUb). This meeting gathered together some of the leaders in ED POCUS in Victoria for a discussion on how we can shape the future of ED POCUS in Australia.
The relaxed social dinner was a very popular part of the evening and was a great networking opportunity. We can attest to the great pub grub at the Rosstown!
Save the date for your diary, the next EMUG Vic meeting will take place on February 15th 2017. The theme is PURE – Point of care Ultrasound in Resource limited environments. Think of international US in lower middle income countries as well as out of hours US in your department or more rural areas in Australia. Bottom line – PoCUS is a life saver if you know how to use it properly!
The future is bright for EMUG-Vic, but remember, we can’t do it without your help!
We are PoCUS, hear us ROAR!!
