The EMUGs Honorary Advisors are individuals with considerable industry leadership experience. They are the founders, champions and drivers of POCUS in Emergency Medicine. Dr Adrian Goudie is an Emergency Physician at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia. He completed his undergraduate degree and emergency training in Perth before working in Australia, South Africa and England, where he began training in ultrasound and echocardiography. Adrian has multiple research interests and is regularly involved in ultrasound training and education for critical care doctors. 

Adrian Goudie -Western Australia


James has been using ultrasound in clinical practice since 2002. He was taught ultrasound in the UK by radiologists and cardiologists and integrating that knowledge into his clinical emergency medicine practice has shaped his career. James runs an Emergency Medicine ultrasound unit within a tertiary hospital ED. James' ultrasound interests and expertise lie in education, innovative teaching techniques, advanced emergency diagnostic and procedural ultrasound, critical care, and really anything emergency ultrasound related. ASUM’s prize winner for Best Sonologist, Best Sonography Tutor, and best article published in AJUM. James also occasionally runs ultrasound courses and is the currently lead of the ASUM DDU emergency medicine examination board.

James Rippey - Western Australia

AMS (Cardiac), PDM, Grad Cert ClinEd

Anthony is an accredited cardiac sonographer working in Point of Care Ultrasound education for the PoCUS program at Monash Health, Victoria. He is completing his Masters in Clinical Education and Teaching through Melbourne University, with a research interest in the facilitators and barriers to echocardiography teaching and training. Anthony is also an elected director for the Australasian Sonographers Association.

Dr. Justin Bowra is an emergency physician and emergency ultrasound tragic at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he runs the ACEM Emergency Ultrasound Special Skills Post with Dr Minh-Tu Duong. He has been performing bedside US since 1999. He is the lead author of Emergency Ultrasound Made Easy (2nd ed), a past chair of the CCPU Board of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine, and recently retired from the ACEM ultrasound committee. Hobbies include telehealth, writing spectacularly unsuccessful film scripts and children’s books and being bossed around by his opinionated daughter. Come & work for him as an US fellow at RNSH ED, he’s a top bloke and definitely did not write this bio.

Justin Bowra - New South Wales


Chris is an Emergency Physician at Liverpool Hospital and a Prehospital & Retrieval Specialist at Greater Sydney Area HEMS (NSW Ambulance). He is also a co-founding member of EMUGs. Born and bred in Sydney, Chris saw the positive influence of point-of-care ultrasound at an early stage in his career & completed his CCPU just prior to his Fellowship in 2014. He has an ultrasound leadership role in both workplaces which encompasses clinical governance, education and research. 

Chris Partyka - New South Wales


Cian works as the Co-Director of Emergency Ultrasound Education and is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mater University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. Cian spent several years in Melbourne, Australia specialising in POCUS. He has been an organising committee member and ultrasound workshop director of the global Social Media and Critical Care conference and he leads international POCUS workshops in Europe, North American and Australia.
